Our Dearest Mambo

From the moment you came into our lives, you changed us forever.

The world was not kind to you in the beginning. Before we found each other, you knew hardship and cruelty that no dog should ever experience. Some thought you could never be rehomed, never learn to trust, and never truly belong.

But they didn't know you.

They didn't know the gentle giant hidden behind those sad eyes. They didn't know the beautiful soul who would become our loyal friend, our protector, our comfort, and our family.

You taught us what resilience looks like. You showed us that love can heal wounds that words cannot reach. Despite everything you endured, you chose kindness. You chose trust. You chose love.

You ran free on the beach with the wind in your brindle coat and joy in your heart. You treasured your toys as if they were old friends. You greeted people and other dogs with a gentleness that amazed everyone who met you. You filled our home with laughter, companionship, and unconditional love.

For almost nine years, we had the privilege of watching you become exactly who you were always meant to be.

Today, our hearts break because we must say goodbye. Cancer may be taking your body, but it can never take what you have given us. The paw prints you leave on our hearts will remain for the rest of our lives.

As you make your journey beyond this world, know this: you were loved beyond measure. You were wanted. You were cherished. You were our boy.

Run free now, Mambo. Feel the sand beneath your paws, the ocean breeze on your face, and the freedom of a body without pain.

And when the time comes for us to make that same journey, please be waiting for us. Find our beloved dogs, cats, and horses. Run with them, play with them, and watch over one another until we arrive.

One day, we hope to see you charging toward us once more, tail wagging, eyes shining, carrying one of your treasured toys, ready for another walk together.
